Between 1965 and 1967, as the United States intensified its presence in Vietnam, the U.S. Army commissioned a series of OG-107 cotton sateen jackets for troops stationed on bases and for support units. Produced on July 11, 1966, by Etowah Industries, the piece you see here is part of these early official models, immediately recognizable by their robust construction and unique patina.
Designed to withstand wind, tropical rainfall, long hours outdoors, and the demanding conditions of military zones, this jacket followed soldiers in their daily routines: base security, logistics operations, maintenance work, transfers between posts, and other non-combat missions. The OG-107 cotton sateen fabric, typical of the era, was ideal for handling dust, humidity, and heavy field wear.
This specific model — Small Regular, under military contract DSA 100-67 — belongs to the family of transitional jackets used just before the widespread adoption of the iconic M-65. Its appeal lies in its functional simplicity: nothing unnecessary, only what matters. Over time, every crease, mark, and shade of the fabric reflects a previous life — a period when these garments were not considered “vintage,” but essential equipment.
